On March 30, the Melanesian Studies Group held its first podcast using Tweeter Space. The topic was the security cooperation agreement between the Solomon Islands and China. Our guests were Colonel Grant Newsham and Ms. Cleo Paskal. Their opinions were in line with what I usually think. There is clearly Chinese influence behind Prime Minister Sogavare's speech and the draft agreement. It is very well thought out and cleverly incorporates international legal principles as well.
Ms. Paskal told us that in order to respond to China's strategy, we should not use the same language as China. One key is the Townsville Agreement, in which Prime Minister Sogavare himself was involved.
Due to technical difficulties, the recording will start at minute 24, and I would like to listen again to the one-hour session, which will be available on Tweeter for 30 days.

3月30日、メラネシア研究会として初めてTweeter Spaceを利用したポッドキャストを開催しました。テーマはソロモン諸島と中国の安全保障協力協定です。ゲストにグラント・ニューシャム大佐とクレオ・パスカル女史をお招きしました。お二人のご意見は普段私が考えていることと一致しました。
ソガヴァレ首相のスピーチや協定草稿の背景には明らかに中国の影響があります。国際法原則も巧妙に取り入れた非常によく練られた内容です。
パスカル女史からは中国の戦略に対応するには中国と同じ言葉を使ってはだめだ、ということです。一つの鍵がソガヴァレ首相自身が関与したタウンズビル協定です。
