私が、SuidaniさんとCelsusさんに日本で見てもらいたかったものは、一言では語れない日中関係である。インド・中国の専門家でなくても２千年の歴史を、日本に生まれ育てば、身の回りに感じる。
太平洋で展開する中国の動きを私は誰よりも知っている。だから Suidaniさんの立場は100％理解し、支持する。
他方、反中の姿勢を固辞するSuidaniさんを支援する米国の言説はあまりにも単純である。インド・中国そして日本の数千年に及ぶ歴史を何も知らないで二極化する単純思考である。米国人は戦前の宋美齢のプロパガンダから未だ解き放たれていないのか、とも思う。
東京では、霞ヶ関での会議の合間を縫って、SuidaniさんとCelsusさんを日比谷公園を案内した。松本楼にある孫文の小さな展示物を見せたかったのだ。百年前Umeya Syokichiが自らの財産、今のお金にして２兆円ほど支援し、孫文の革命を支援したのだ。
そして、京都。二条城も、京都それ自体も中国の模倣である。千二百年前の日本は中国のコピーなのだ。Celsusさんに、日本には100万人近い在日中国人がいると伝えたら驚いていた。

What I wanted Hon Suidani and Mr Celsus to see in Japan is a Japan-China relationship that cannot be summed up in a single word. You don't have to be an expert on India and China to feel 2,000 years of history around you if you were born and raised in Japan.
I know more than anyone else about the Chinese movements unfolding in the Pacific. So I understand and support Suidani's position 100 per cent.
On the other hand, the US discourse in support of Ms Suidani's staunch anti-Chinese stance is too simplistic. It is simplistic thinking that polarises India, China and Japan without knowing anything about their thousands of years of history. One wonders whether the Americans have not yet freed themselves from the pre-war propaganda of Song Mei-ling.
In Tokyo, I took time out from a meeting in Kasumigaseki to show Suidani and Celsus around Hibiya Park. I wanted to show them the small Sun Yat Sen exhibition in the Matsumoto Ro restaurant. One hundred years ago, Umeya Syokichi supported Sun Yat-sen's revolution with his fortune, about two trillion yen in today's money.
And Kyoto. Nijo Castle and Kyoto itself are Chinese imitations. Celsus was surprised when I told him that there are nearly one million Chinese living in Japan.
