農家滞在の翌日は、「水源の里」での稲刈り作業に参加した。農業体験、コミュニティ活動、地元の人々との交流の機会を持ってもらいたかった。
幸い、ファームステイを運営する睦寄町の人々は県外からの移住者が多く、観光業やITビジネスの経験者で英語もでき睦寄町、そして綾部の魅力を地元の人よりも知っている。里山ゲストハウスを運営する工忠照幸（くちゅう てるゆき）氏もそんな一人。旅行会社を経営しながら綾部の魅力を世界に発信し、コミュニティ活動を推進している。
Tailifilu氏は、高校生の時に稲刈りを学校で学んだのだそうだ。台湾による農業支援の一環だったそうだ。二人は長靴が気に入ったらしく、同じものを買ってソロモン諸島に持って行きたいと言う。四方源太郎府議が帰り際にプレゼントしてくれた。私はその後知ったのだがソロモン諸島、マライタ島の道路は雨が降ると通行できなくなるほど酷い状態なのだ。
日本は1963年以降小麦の消費が増え、お米生産が赤字になっている。日本政府は毎年３千億円の支援をしていると言うことを農林水産副大臣、鈴木憲和議員のSNSで知った。食料の自給力を維持することは国家安全保障上重要なのだ。
ソロモン諸島はほぼ100％輸入米に頼っている。2022年の統計では中国（588万ドル）、台湾（459万ドル）、ニュージーランド（26.8kドル）を輸入。少しでも自給率を上げる支援が必要で、その試みもされているようなのだが・・

Our guests, Mr Suidani and Mr Talifilu, spent the day after their farmhouse stay harvesting rice in the Village of the origine of spring water". We wanted them to have the opportunity to experience farming, community activities and interaction with local people.
Fortunately, many of the people in Mutsunyori-cho who run the farmstay are from outside the prefecture, have experience in tourism and IT business, speak English and know more about the charms of Mutsunyori-cho and Ayabe than the locals. Teruyuki Kuchu, who runs the Satoyama Guesthouse, is one such person. While running a travel agency, he promotes Ayabe's attractions to the world and promotes community activities.
Mr Tailifilu learnt to harvest rice at high school student. He says it was part of the agricultural programme supported by Taiwan. They like the boots and want to buy the same ones and take them to the Solomon Islands. Mr Gentaro Shikata, a prefectural councillor, bought this special boots to them on their leaving. I later found out that the roads on Malaita Island in the Solomon Islands are in such bad condition that they become impassable when it rains.
Since 1963, Japan's consumption of wheat has increased and rice production is in deficit. I learnt from SNS of Mr Norikazu Suzuki, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, that the Japanese Government provides 300 billion yen in aid every year.Maintaining food self-sufficiency is important for national security.
Solomon Islands relies almost 100% on imported rice: according to 2022 statistics, it imports from China (USD 5.88m), Taiwan (USD 4.59m) and New Zealand (USD 26.8k).
There is a need for assistance to increase self-sufficiency as much as possible, and there are attempts being made...
