This is an article by Kaori Fukushima, a journalist and advisor to the Melanesian Studies. Actually, it was an encounter with Ms. Kaori Fukushima that inspired me to start the Melanesian Studies.
As a specialist on China, she had a keen interest in the Pacific island nations. She gave an easy-to-understand explanation of the Solomon Islands riots and the New Caledonia referendum. She also mentioned the report on China by the French military school's Institute for Strategic Studies (IRSEM), and even touched on the geopolitics of the communication cables stretching across the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. The ability to put all this together is as good as any journalist can do!
